The Philadelphia was built in 1776...and sunk in 1776.  It was part of the Continental
squadron on Lake Champlain that stopped the British force aiming for New York.  Under the
command of Benedict Arnold (before his treason), this squadron's victory helped set the stage
for the Continental Army's victory at Saratoga in 1777.  Recovered during the 1970's, it is
now on permanent display in the Smithsonian's Museum of American History.
