Sept. 11, 2001: I only spent an hour working on the flight deck before I
was sent up flying in a C-2 Greyhound to photograh two of our F-14D's
in the air. (Click here to see a photograph of myself and some of my
brothers and sisters in arms during the last few hours of peacetime).
These photos were taken at approximately 1400, North Arabian Sea
time. The attacks on Washington, DC, and New York City were only
about four hours from taking place when I made these exposures while
sitting on the open cargo door of the C-2 at an altitude of about 4,000
feet. (For a look at the first night of strike operations against the
terrorists in Afghanistan, go to the Eyewitness to History index.)
